Variable Goals Training (VGT): An Innovative Approach to Hockey Skills Development

For the last 7 or 8 years, we have been perfecting a new and innovative way to challenge young hockey players to stimulate their read-and-react skills and puck-handling creativity under authentic game-like conditions. We call this training method Variable Goals Training (VGT).

Focus on Individual Skills

This training method is specifically designed to develop individual skills, making it very different from our regular team training practices. During the summer or at the start of the hockey season, we focus on this type of individual skill development to build a strong foundation for the upcoming season.

Adapting as the Season Progresses

As the hockey season progresses, especially for older players, practice time shifts more towards team tactics and game preparation. However, we continue to use these drills throughout the season at regular intervals to maintain and fine-tune the players' individual skills.

Ideal for Younger Players

For younger players, these drills are ideal for use throughout the season, as most of the practice time is devoted to developing individual skills.
