Description:
For the last 7 or 8 years, we have been perfecting a new and innovative way to challenge young hockey players to stimulate their read-and-react skills and puck-handling creativity under authentic game-like conditions. We call this training method Variable Goals Training (VGT).
This training method is designed specifically to focus on the development of individual skills, making it distinct from traditional team training practices. We emphasize this type of skill development in the summer or at the start of the hockey season to build a strong foundation for the upcoming season.
As the hockey season progresses, particularly for older players, practice time shifts toward team tactics and game preparation. However, we continue to incorporate VGT drills throughout the season to help players maintain and fine-tune their individual skills.
For younger players, these drills are ideal throughout the season, as they will primarily focus on individual skill development, setting them up for long-term growth and success on the ice.
