Description:
For the last 7 or 8 years, we have been perfecting a new and innovative way to challenge young hockey players to stimulate their read-and-react skills and puck-handling creativity under authentic game-like conditions. We call this training method Variable Goals Training (VGT).
This training method is focused on the development of individual skills, making it very different from our team training practices. VGT is ideal for enhancing the personal skills of players, especially during the summer or at the start of the hockey season when a strong foundation needs to be built for the coming months.
As the hockey season progresses, particularly for older players, practice time shifts more towards team tactics and game preparation. However, VGT drills are still incorporated at regular intervals throughout the season to maintain and fine-tune the player's individual skills.
For younger players, these drills are particularly effective because most of the practice time will be dedicated to individual skill development. This ensures players continue to build their individual hockey abilities throughout the season, setting them up for long-term success.
