New Snowkiting Camp Organizer Joins TopSportsCamps: Welcome Upwind Snowkiting!
We are excited to welcome Upwind Snowkiting to the growing TopSportsCamps community!
Upwind Snowkiting offers week-long snowkite camps in Fagerheim, Norway, surrounded by the spectacular winter landscape of the Hardangervidda mountain plateau.
The camp combines snowkite instruction and guided adventures with accommodation, meals, recovery activities and a welcoming international community.
One Week in the Heart of Norway
The 2027 snowkite season runs from February to April, with different one-week camp options available throughout the season.
Participants stay for seven nights directly at the Fagerheim Snowkiting Base. When the conditions are right, riders can step outside, prepare their equipment and begin snowkiting almost immediately.
It is a genuine kite-in, kite-out winter experience.
Who Can Join?
The camp welcomes different experience levels:
• Complete beginners learning to snowkite
• Kitesurfers transitioning from water to snow
• Experienced snowkiters looking for guided adventures
• Skiers and snowboarders interested in discovering a new winter sport
Beginners receive instruction and support as they learn to control the kite and move safely across the snow. Experienced riders can explore the plateau with guidance from instructors who know the local terrain and weather conditions.
A Complete Snowkite Experience
Depending on the selected package, the experience can include:
• Seven nights of accommodation
• Full-board meals
• Snowkite lessons and guidance
• Snowkite equipment packages
• Transport to suitable snowkite locations
• Pick-up from Haugastøl train station
• Secure equipment storage
• Morning stretching
• Yoga sessions
• Evening sauna
• Discussions and advice from experienced instructors
Participants can concentrate on learning, improving and enjoying the adventure while the local team takes care of the practical arrangements.
Experienced Guidance on Hardangervidda
The Upwind Snowkiting team has been visiting and exploring the area since 2010.
Participants are guided by experienced instructors and Arctic explorers, including members of Jan Šimek’s team. Šimek is a winner of the VAKE long-distance snowkite race.
Each day’s destination and activities are selected according to the weather, wind, snow conditions and ability levels within the group.
More Than Snowkiting
Wind and weather are part of every snowkite adventure. When conditions change, Fagerheim still offers opportunities to enjoy the Norwegian winter.
Alternative activities may include:
• Cross-country skiing
• Ski touring
• Downhill skiing
• Snowshoeing
• Sledding
• Dog sledding
• Multi-day winter excursions
• A visit to Vøringsfossen waterfall
After an active day outdoors, participants can return to the accommodation, enjoy a meal and relax in the sauna.
